Russell Jacob Priddy was born 27 January 1901 at Ozawkie, Jefferson County, Kansas. His parents (Lorenzo Daniel Priddy and Margaret Emeline Winkler) moved from Kansas to Southern California between 1905 and 1910. Russ attended Florence Avenue Grammar School in East Los Angeles and Huntington Park High School.

Nan Louise Davis was born 15 November 1904 at Chelsea, Butler County, Kansas. Her parents also came to California from Kansas, so she also attended Huntington Park High School, and that is where she met Russ. They were married during the lunch hour in May 1923. Nan was working at Blackstone's Department Store in downtown Los Angeles (it later became J. W. Robinson's).

Russ studied Electrical Engineering at California Institute of Technology (Cal Tech) in Pasadena. He lived with his parents in Huntington Park and commuted to class. He played baseball in college, and was recruited by the Southern California Telephone Company, who wanted him for his baseball skills as much as for his education. He began as as a messenger, then became a truck driver, then joined the Chief Engineer's Department and advanced to Inventory and Costs Engineer.

Nan and Russ had a son and a daughter. They lived in East Los Angeles, Glendale, La Cañada, Los Osos, and Lake San Marcos. Russ retired in 1961. His hobbies were fishing and golf. He had a dry sense of humor. He died in 1974. Nan died in 1981.
