"Check around. The best pages on the Web aren't those that use the newest stuff. Often, the most elegant and effective pages can run quite well in Version 2.0 browsers. White space, Times and Courier fonts, table layouts, and maybe your occasional GIF headline are just about all you really need. Concise content, displayed clearly and downloaded in 20 seconds or less, is the key to good Web design." Darcy Dinucci, MacWEEK Online 9/25/97

Free Hosting
You can get free server space for your web pages, instead of paying an ISP -- but there are strings attached. Read the terms of service: the providers may not guarantee that your pages will always be available; in fact some reserve the right to delete your pages without notice. Some free sites eventually become "angelfire sucks" or "I hate xoom" rants when the page-owners move on to a better service.
Freeservers They put ads at the top of each page.
Xoom You must give Xoom permission to censor and spam you, though in my experience they do neither. They do add a small banner to the top of your pages. Owned by NBCi.
GeoCities Visitors to your site will be annoyed by pop-up ads. Owned by Yahoo.
Angelfire Annoying pop-up ads. Less restrictive than Xoom or GeoCities. Owned by Lycos.
Tripod Annoying pop-up ads. Also owned by Lycos.
FortuneCity They add banner-ads to your pages.
